The Islamic State represented the topic which nations are most interested in the debate.
CARACAS (Reuters MOVENU International) — During the first two sessions of the Security Council in MOVENU International 2016, delegates set first in the agenda Topic A: The Islamic State, a new wave of terrorism. The reasons this topic was opened first, were mainly because ISIS is currently a threat to International Security and Peace, and countries are concerned about what could happen to their nations, and are coming up with solutions on tackling this issue that affects each and every country present in the committee.
First of all, it is important to understand how this “Non-State Actor” could affect nations in every scope possible. That is why some of the delegations gave exclusive interviews to Reuters to speak about their proposals on tackling this issue.
Some of them were the delegation of United States, which established that “terrorism is something that needs to be taken into consideration, not only the Islamic State”. That is why they propose a Prevention/Detection/Prosecution framework.
Also, the delegation of France and Russia in different interviews, agreed in terms of a ceasefire in Syria before tackling any other issue regarding lone wolf terrorism, “It it important to stabilise the problems in the Middle East in order to start tackling the problem of ISIS with all our power right now” said the delegation of Russia.
Specifically, the delegation of France emphasised the importance of going back to the resolution 2268 United Nations Security Council, which refers to a “calling for a cessation of hostilities and a grant for access to humanitarian workers in Syria.”
